32x11.50 rubbing

I am here once again because I believe my dad is wrong on something... he is GREAT with vehicles under the hood but I don't think he's very jeepicated :/

I've recently purchased a set of pro comp 32x11.50 all terrains and when my dad aligned and put them on he noticed how I have very...and I mean VERY little space in the back. My dad actually "banged" part of the metal in...without consulting me D: (my poor baby!!!) and he says it'll work. Ugh I'm so worried right now. I've been driving her for about two weeks since then and I am pretty sure what I'm hearing/feeling is my tires rubbing. I'm absolutely clueless on how to fix this though. I've got 15inch rims.

Should I buy new rims? Or new tires or...ah...very worried about my baby right now!!

We're also on the market for a new steering box so I don't know if THAT could be what is happening or what...

I had 32x12.50x15 Pro Comp A/T on my 2000 TJ but I had wheels with 2.5 inches of backspacing so they worked out. Even then I stuffed the wheelwells full offroad. To run the 32 Pro Comp's I suggest a 1.5 to 2" budget boost and maybe a 1" body lift. You might respectfully mention to your Dad to quit bending crap!

I'm running a 4" skyjacker lift now, should I add to that? My dad refuses to install a body lift...his pathfinder has 4" of suspension and 4" of body and I think he had a bad experience...he hates body lifts now for some reason.

Yeah I let him have it when he started bending things. Sadly I have to go to him because he will do things such as inspections, tire balancing and general tranny engine checking for free and I respect him too much to tell him he's wrong on some things blah.

No more lift lol just need less backspacing on the wheels. I have 31x10.50x15 now with stock wheels with it still stock and no rubbing till I cramp the wheels all the way to the R or L. Look at your tires if there's rubbing there will be signs of it.

I didn't think so. I don't want anymore 4" is plenty for me!

I'll take a look at it tomorrow for sure it's only been two weeks though. I do know I hear it at about half way through a turn. When you look at the tire and the wheel it is tight...even my dad agrees it's tight. He just doesn't think it will cause a problem long term. My concern is I was very blessed to receive these tires from family and i do not want them wasted to something that could be a simple fix. How would I make less back spacing? I would prefer to not buy a new tire. Somebody mentioned getting a wider rim but that just doesn't sound right to me. I figure WF has always steered me the right way

I used to run 32x11.5 on stock rims with a 2" lift.

yeah, it was really tight in the rear wheel wells but i never had a problem.
For the front end, I put washers on the steering stops to stop the tyres rubbing at full lock.

4 inches of lift and you have tire rub with 32s at ride height something is not right. Is the rear wheel centered in the wheel well? it may be time for adjustable control arms. We're running 35s on a 4 inch lift and only rub when they are fully stuffed into the fenders on the trails

The tires may be rubbing the coil spring pads on the frame. You have two options: purchase new rims with proper backspacing or purchase wheel spacers.

Okay can you guys give me an idea of what I should take pictures of? I hear/feel the rubbing and my gut says it is where my dad took a...hammer...to the thing above what the wheel fits on in the back but I can't be sure :hides: I don't want to post pictures of the wrong things !

Take a picture of what your dad bent and take a picture of how your tires fit in the wheel well from the side and whatever you think it could be rubbing on

I noticed that if I were looking at my jeep from the back, my left rear wheel has more space than my right. I can fit my whole hand straight down, snug, on the left but can hardly fit a finger down on the right one. Here are pics, hopefully it gives y'all an idea...

How about one of the whole Jeep from the side and one of the back and front. I'm starting to agree that you might need adjustable control arms to recenter the axle.

I took a video of the sound of my tires rubbing at a half turn just pulling out of my driveway...sound is horrid I just don't know how to post it on here.

IMO looks like you need more back spacing so either add wheel spacers or different wheels.

I really like my rims but I would be willing to sell them and turn around and pick up a set of soft8's if it means better spacing and no more rubbing. All I could afford are the S8's or something comparable. I just need to do whatever I can do to keep these tires running me to and from my daily commute to college for another two years.

Tried to talk to my dad about this and he shut me down. He assumes that, "half the people on that forum have no experience with vehicles." well IMO you all have experience with jeep things and jeep problems and that is what counts. So if I do need to invest in something I'll probably be doing it on my own which means more questions from me :hides:

Thanks! I'm definitely suffering from the jeep disease!

So if I go for new wheels (which are the same as rims right?) how should I shop? Am I looking for 15inch again but with "not stock" backpacking or something...wow I sound really stupid right now. :hides:

I'll price up a correct set of wheels and a set of spacers and see which one will be better for my budget. However if I go with wheels I can turn around and (sadly) sell the ones I have now which may even out my money pocket some.

If you go with the spacers ($200) you just use the wheels you have. they fit right behind your current wheels and move them out from the Jeep. Wheels = Rims. If you want new wheels you need ones with a minimum of 3.75 of backspacing 3" would be even better. You are limited to which wheel because not all wheels come with the amount of backspacing you need,

Looks like I'm going with new wheels. Spacers are apparently illegal and since I am aspiring to join my local pd in three years I think I should stick to the legal stuff (well technically any mod to a vehicle is illegal if it isn't factory but it is rightfully ignored) but my dad huffed about the spacers so new wheels it is!

Thank you so much everybody for helping out. I love learning new things about the jeep and I'm glad I have a reliable forum to go to for any questions no matter how stupid.

it's weird how our cases are so similar , but mine is worse, a had installed a 2.5 OME kit with 32x11.5R15 cooper STT tires. (i had coil spacers before OME) and that's few hours ago

it turned out that the PO had put a longer rear trackbar, but since the worker that was installing my lift was a total genius, he added a trackbar relocation bracket without noticing that the trackbar was already long enough and now my axle has an offset to the left.

and the result is

Looks like the guy needs to fix it and buy you a new tire.

it's almost fixed, it's not 100% centered , i told him to to bolt it back on the orriginal position without the relocation bracket, at least now the tires are cleared.

he will also replace the tire, but in a month (shipping delay) so i patched the tire and currently hoping it won't fall apart.

Too bad that now i have to miss snow wheeling season, and i'm always woried about the tire failing when i drive to work (1.5 hours round-trip)

I agree with your advice to the OP. I would also suggest that an adjustable track bar to center the rear end. Your thoughts?

if it's like my case, it means the track bar needs to be shorter, but could be a different case, but i'm not a mechanic i only have experience with cases that i went through
