Hey guys! I know this might seem like a stupid question, but I figured I would run it by you anyways. I have a 2003 Rubicon and I plan on lifting it with a 2.25 inch bb lift and JKS 1.25" body lift. I want to get some 33x12.5 tires as well. My plan was to keep my stock rubicon wheels and use the 33 tires on them.
My question is, how do you get that wide tire stance on a jeep? I have noticed pics with some jeeps that have the 15" wheels and 33 tires that look like they have a wider tire. But when I see 33s on stock rubicon wheels it looks like they have a skinnier width than the 15" wheels. Am I just seeing things, or is the 33" tire on the 15" wheel wider in appearance than the 16" rubicon wheel? Or does this strictly have to do with backspacing of the wheel?
Sorry about the dumb question, I'm kind of new to this and I really like the wider tire appearance when the tire sticks out a little past the stock fender flare. I was just wondering if the 15" wheel and the stock rubicon wheel really do have a different appearance, or I was seeing things lol. Thanks for any help you can give me!
look mt my avator and my pics and mine are factory rubi wheel with 305s, which are 33x12.50s. look wide, just dont stick out beyond the flares. i may get some spacers sometime, cuz i like my wheels.

Generally speaking, you cannot mount 33x12.50 tires on any factory Jeep wheels due to their excessive backspacing. For no rubbing whatsoever, you need no more backspacing than about 4" and factory wheels have 5.25" to 5.5" of backspacing which is too much.
The below pic shows how backspacing is measured, with the yellow tape measure measuring the wheel's backspace dimension which is that distance between the wheel's mounting flange and the back edge of the wheel. With too much backspacing, the tire's inside sidewall will rub on a spring, spring perch, or control arm.

to get the wide stance its the BS on the wheels. the smaller the BS than stock wheels makes them stick out farther, the BS on my wheels are 3.75 with 33X12.50 15's. the stock wheels are what 4.5 BS, just look at my sig
So from what I got out of this, its all about backspacing and not the wheel itself. So say if I were to keep my stock Rubicon wheels, which I believe are 16x8 wheels, and put some 33x12.5s on them. If I wanted them to stick out from the stock fender and have the wider stance that would only be a matter of backspacing and no problem to do? What backspacing would you recommend to make it possible? Thanks, and any other opinions or even pics would be great!
