So ive got 3.07 gears and 33" tires and a 4"lift.. this is the way i bought the jeep. It dont really seem doggie..i haven't done much off roading yet and probably wont start till i pay off the jeep...with that being said,.. its a manual 4.0 with 85k.. should i be concerned with the rear end in this thing? And if so, i see alot about the ford 8.8? Is this a good conversion and what would you do to the front end to make it work??

You can wheel it with the D35 in the back, just drive it with a little finesse, and don't lock it. You should regear to 4.56 though. If you want to upgrade your axle, you can use a Ford 8.8 (needs to be rebracketed) or a D44 out of another TJ (bolt in).

Like NYjeeper_TJ, I also dropped from 33's (275/70/18) down to 31's on 15" rims...what a difference! (also on 3.07 gears...4.0 5-spd manual). However, I don't have a 4" lift. PO put on a 2" BL which I'm taking out and will do a 2" BDS Shock/Coil SL. I'm thinking I'll either stay on 31's or 'maybe' move to 32's...but won't go to 33's with the 3.07's.

My brother has a 97 4.0 manual with 32's on 3.07's and compared to my 99 4.0 manual with 33's on 3.73's it definitely is slugging, granted he gets better gas mileage than me on the highway but I also don't use 5th gear, I plan on swapping the rear Dana 35 to a ford 8.8 with 3.73's and then eventually regearing to 4.56 in the Dana 30 and ford 8.8

I ran 32s with the 3.07 for about a year, and it was definitely a dog. Just put in 4.56 gears this spring and love it. If anything, it may be a little too aggressive (where once I never used 5th gear, now 1st is almost worthless for daily driving), but I plan on going up a tire size eventually.

Best thing I did was a 4.56 gear with my 33's.Should have done it sooner. And i have my 35 locked and super shafts.
