33's with 3.73 gears?

So i have been flirting with the idea of running 33's on my tj but i have been wondering if they would put too much stress on my 3.73 gears....
the lift im putting in will have enough room for them so i have no worrys about the suspension....

input????

That's what I've been running for a couple of years. Its OK but 4.56's are on my list. Your gears are still lower than 3.07's with stock tires with the 33's. I did the math on it once and it works out to around 3.50. The higher gears are really noticeable in low range, you hit obstacles to fast and that's when things break.

They will rub when flexing and it sounds terrible when they do. It could also bend your fender. The offset may or may not cause a problem. I've never ran rims without the correct offset.

I believe he means 3.75'' backspacing.....the same as the wheels you have 4point.

Kelly....when will the lift be in? If the 32's you have now are still good to drive on you can always put the new 33' to the side until you install the new lift.

But We all know what happens when someone gets a new toy for the jeep. We have to go install it as soon as we can.

I ran 35's for a couple years with 3.73 gears on my 6cyl auto. Still had plenty of gear to make a pass on the freeway etc.

i'm running 33s on mine with the stock 3.73s. it's fine just driving around town. on the highway you'll notice that you have to downshift for hills to hold your speed (60mph +) and your Jeep won't like to go over 70-75. i'm still getting around 15mpg or so with my set up.

I am running 33's on a 15x8 rim with 3.07 gears and it is fine. Like said, you will have to downshift going up certain hills but I drive the expressway plenty and it isnt any problem at all at 65-70mph.

KellyK,

If it were me... Wait, I am doing the exact same thing at present.. Anyway, I would wait until you have enough to regear to at least 4:56s.. I currently have 33" X 12.50s w/ 3:73s and a D44 and it gets on my nerves sometimes. Yeah, it will get up to speed, but it takes a while. I even have some cute little performance upgrades installed as well.. I am due to have my 4:56s installed in a couple of weeks and they said that should restore me to "stock" power. I'll put it to you this way; my buddy has an 05 "X" TJ which is pretty much stock other than 31"X10.50s and his has a vast amount more "Giddy-up" than Mine.. But, mine is bigger than his though... FOR NOW!

You can totally keep the stock 3:73s if it doesn't bother you all that much.. It kinda bothers me because my TJ isn't my DD, so when I drive it I can't even come close replicating the power of my DD (which can get up and runnin' with very little provocation). I suppose I am just being nit-picky here... It really isn't all that bad, but when you drive a stock Jeep w/o 33"s, you will be jealous about the power you are missing.

I had 32s and 3.07 gears for about 1.5 years. it was ok for me. 33s and 3.73 is way better.

i dont drive it more then 50mph since i dont ever leave town with it.
My main worry was that it would put undue stress on the gears and the pixt dick D35 i have....

it'll be fine. in a D35, the gears aren't the weak link, the axle shafts are.
