My rig just has a trailer marker light wired into it and affixed to the tailgate. Done by PO.

Same boat here brother! I'm Currently stationed in VA and we do need them here. I have been pondering the idea of something like a LED bar under the tailgate like a lot of newer truck have. When it warms up that is one of the mods I am lookiing at doing.

there are a ton of led's out there that are easily added, I am looking at submersible leds that go on a boat trailer, just wire in and go.

In VA, its needs to be higher than the tail lights. I have been trying to come up with an idea to install a spreader bar in the back bend of the rollcage and mount one up there.

Even if it was legal to drive without a 3rd brake light, I'd still want one. There are just too many impaired people driving around while drunk, stoned, high on various drugs, texting, not paying attention, etc. and it is well proven that a higher-mounted 3rd brake light is more likely to be noticed and get their attention more quickly.

I do want to do led lights as well. More visability. Here in Houston, any help you can get is needed.

If you got the time/cash, I would do it all in one shot.

Check out the ones Savvy has, I run them and they are great, Look like stock lights except much slimer. Bright as hell, also has a side reflector and light in order to stay legal in most states.

Those look good! However the OP was asking about a third brake light, which ir daes not look like you have?? And wow $216 for some tail lights is a bit pricey.

You are correct, that post wasn't directed at the OP, it was directed at the person I quoted. I have a third brake light, its attached to the same light that is illuminating my plate. Also I didn't mind spending the money on lights that required no hole cutting, and nothing extra to make it so I pass inspections. In VA you have to have a side reflector and light, which these have.

Off Road Only LD-PL6 - Off Road Only LiteDOT Plate Light - Quadratec

Seeing as how I am taking the picture and not applying the brakes, it is not illuminated in that picture.

As I stated earlier in this thread I do plan on changing this setup and running no spare. I plan to mount a light to a spreader bar that I will be installing between the rear section of the factory roll bars.

I just did this for mine today. I used two red clearance lights and zip tied them to the roll bar. Then I just wrapped some wire around the third brake light connections and ran those underneath the roll bar covers from the passenger side across to the driver side. I used some plastic conduit for the one bit of exposed wire to make it look a little more professional. Had to make two small cuts in the roll bar covers to run the wires through to the lights.

The primary distinction of the third brake light is that it should be on the centerline of the vehicle. Just a heads up, if that's required in KY what you have may not pass an inspection.

No inspections in KY, I just did this for the safety aspect.

Just because you got me curious, I did some research and found that Kentucky only requires a minimum of 2 tail lights, and does not mention a third brake light in its statutes. That doesn't mean a cop can't hassle me for it, but I seriously doubt I'll be pulled over for something most cops wouldn't even know was missing.

You're lucky, I wish I could run without in VA, would make some of my future plans easier.
