4.0 blocks

I'm looking to put a short block in my 2000 TJ and can't find a definate answer on what all year model blocks I could use. I am looking for a used motor, but all I have found locally are mid 90s and need to know if I can use my head, intake, exhaust, distributorless ignition system, tins, and accessories on the older model blocks without issues. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It seems as though if you are transferring all of the engine electronics and sensors (which you have to anyway) that an older block should work. The design has stayed the same for many years with changes ranging from electronics and other small items such as different exhaust manifolds but the block has virtually remained unchanged. Now if you have vehicle inspections in your state, the law states you cannot put an older engine in your Jeep. It has to be the same year or newer. How they can tell, I doubt most would be able to as long as all of your electronics and emissions devices are transferred to the replacement engine. This is purely speculation and just my opinion, but it seems like an older model 4.0L would work. Can anyone else verify this?
