4.0 vs 4.0 High Output ???

I saw a classified ad for a 1997 Wrangler.
On the side of the vehicle was lettering that said "4.0L High Output".

Is the 4.0L engine always a HIGH OUTPUT engine, or are there two different engines?

The "HO" engines used head casting 7120. Later head castings in all models were 0631 and 0331, and all can be considered "HO" if you like. Jeep just dropped the badging in the later models. There are some differences in bench flow data, but if you look at Jeep's specs, later years with 0331 heads were rated for more power & torque than 7120's.

the 4.0L H.O. engine was an option on certain Grand Cherokees up through model year 2004. The true H.O. engine, which had increased HP and torque over the standard EFI 4.0L, was never available in a Wrangler to the best of my knowledge.

4.0 ho

The 4.0 H.O. emblem was put on cherokees, grand cherokees and some YJ wranglers for a period of time( early 90's), but the motor is no different.

The empblem on that particular Wrangler is a rear, right hand corner emblem that has been put in the wrong spot....And they never came in pink.

The Wrangler YJ got the "High Output" 4.0L in 1991 which has been used in the Wrangler ever since. That is when the YJ Wrangler lost its old carbureted 4.2L engine and went to the fuel injected 4.0L engine that had been in the XJ Cherokee for a couple years by then. Jeep simply stopped adding the High Output sticker a little later.

that's not a factory badge.

somebody bought the pink lettered "Jeep" and "4.0L High Output" emblems on Ebay (or someplace else) and stuck them on the Jeep.
