4WD lite on...NOT in 4WD

My TJ sits for extended periods, I got it out this morning, noticed the 4WD light on. Checked, NOT IN 4WD. It will go out in N on the transfer case and back on in 4WDL. Is there an adjustment to a switch, wiggling the lever up down is no help...........So what is it, Thanks STEVE it is a 97, 165K miles

On the T-case, near the front drive shaft output yoke(in the red circle)
I don't think that it's adjustable

Mine did this after I installed a fuse in the clutch bypass slot. Took the fuse out and light went out. Don't know if you have a manual or auto.

Mine does that too when you put the fuse in the clutch bypass spot. I thought it was stuck in 4wd but when in took the fuse out the light went out.

Thanks for help sofar. It went off today for a while then came back on, I'm sure it's not in 4WD. Will check the availibility of the switch. It is an auto by the way

Take the switch out, clean it, then use some dielectric grease on it.. Its just a ball that gets pushed up and grounds out the circuit for the indicator light

UPDATE OK I found the switch on the transfer case, disconnected the wire and the light stays on. I'm sure that it's not in 4WD. I dont find any bad fuses anywhere, is some demon providing power even with the disconnect? I also closed the loop with a wire and light stayed on. I traced as far as I could reach, no wire damage.

I know there is a smart guy out there that can solve this for me, other than the black tape over the light. I tried turning the radio up louder but that didn't work either. Also the light will not go out in N on the TC. I disconnected the battery too.

I think an evil thing has taken it over...............
