4WL Shifting Problems '04 Wrangler Automatic

Hello. I just purchased my first Jeep, a 2003 Wrangler Sahara. The description as the seller advertised it is as follows:
2003 Jeep Wrangler - Sahara Edition
- 41,500 miles
- Never been off-road
- Dana 44 rear end
- 6 cylinder
- Automatic transmission
- Tinted glass
- Hard Top and Soft Top
- New tires in January of 2008 (33X12.50X15)
- New battery in January of 2008
- New 8000 lb. winch (never used)
- Class III hitch on rear
- Jeep neoprene seat covers
- ARB bumper
- 2 1/2 inch Old Man Emu suspension lift
- Excellent condition

I payed $15,900. I would have chose a standard trans but my daughter will drive this to school and she is not very good with a stick. It does appear this vehicle has never been off road. Unlike the previous owner I will take it offroad. I have a problem getting it to stay in 4WL. Transfere case wants to jump into nuetral when in 4WL. It jumps out just after I start to apply any power. After many tries (10-15) it will stay. It does not do this in 4WH. I suspect it is a linkage issue due to the lift kit. It is also rather difficult to get back into 2WH after being in 4WH or 4WL. Any thoughts?

how do you shift to 4L? with the auto tranny in D position?
try it on this way.
shift to D, release the brake. when the jeep rolls slow shift to N. then while it rolls in N pull back the TC shifter back to 4L. then shift back to D.
do the same when you shift back to 2H.

on that way it works on my TJ. when i shift to 4L while i´m standing and in D it pops out to N the first time i push the gas.

sounds like a linkage adjustment problem to me
but i realize it didnt state that it had a body lift?? so???

Yep there's a 99.999999% chance that it needs nothing more than a quick & easy adjustment of the transfer case shift mechanism. There's a 1/2" head bolt that holds the lever to a shift rod and when it slips a tad so the shift lever can't pull the shift rod far enough, the transfer case won't shift all the way into 4Lo. You could crawl underneath and learn enough in a few seconds on how the mechanism works so you could loosen that bolt and reposition that bracket back to where it goes on the rod so it will pull it all the way into 4Lo.
When you have a choice, buy American.
