6 1/2" speakers in sound bar...?

I have replaced the dash speakers and radio today with a Pioneer unit. I was mainly looking for a unit that had a USB and AUX jack. I got both with the Pioneer unit. I dont need a half a bazillion watts, just want a little more quality sound than the factory 6 disc changer offered. Everything was easy to change out. I have lost the console bass in the swap...no biggie. Now my portable XM unit works with the AUX jack and the USB works with my MP3's when in the woods..

My local Bestbuy wont have 5 1/4" speakers for my sound bar in for a few days. Will 6 1/2" speaks fit in the sound bar boxes without an adapter?? If so I'll swing back in and pick up a pair tomorrow.

Any value for factory 6 disc changers ??

Does it matter what year TJ soundbar you have? I have been meaning to pick up some 6.25's for the soundbar just wanted to make sure they would fit in there

6.5" will fit. Yu just need to redrill the mounting holes. I have 6.5" JBL 3-way in my sound bar. I will be getting adapters to fit 5.25" in the dash instead of 4x6.

Aren't those stereos with aux jacks and usb slots just the coolest? have a jvc in my car like that and just took a sony xplod out of another car that has those features that i was thinking of slapping in my jeep. only problem with that though is i already have an active xm receiver in the jeep.

i've been meaning to ask about fitting 6.5 inch speakers in there also as i thought i saw that on here before. therein lies another problem though. installed all new regular size alpine speakers in dash and soundbar last year!

took a 4 channel amp out of that other car that i might install in jeep for just a hair more uuummmppphh! don't need a sub in jeep. that might require me to upgrade soundbar speakers then!!

reminder to self:
6.5 inch speakers will fit!! LOL

Thanks guys. I'll pick the 6 1/2's today and have that lil' project done.

cork1958 - I installed the same Pioneer radio in my bass boat last year. When I bought the Jeep, I knew I needed another Pioneer unit. I use the Aux jack for my portable XM module in my Jeep, Harley and boat....plus it sits in a docking station in the man cave. The USB jack is very cool for a ba zillion MP3's that I've made up on a few $10 thumb drives....I don't need the FM radio or CD player,

I just installed 6.5" speakers in mine. Like others said, redrill the holes and you're golden. The 5.25" speakers I pull out of the sound bar will be living behind the dash shortly.

You shouldn't lose your center console sub with that Pioneer headunit installed. It's most likey not wired correctly...that amp pulls it's signal from the other speakers, not seperately. I just installed my Pioneer deck and my stock sub works perfectly.

Also put 6.5"s in the sound bar.

X2 - Polk DB series in the sound bar is kinda sketchy but the better sound is work the extra work. I bought all my stuff on Amazon. Got the MTX 5.25 mounts, speakers and adapter wires. Sounds sweet with my Pioneer P9400BH.

I have an 06 wrangler. I tried installing pioneer 6.5 4 ways, and they won't fit. The hole in the sound bar is just slightly too small. The hole pattern would allow me to get 2-3 of the screws, but not all. In addition, their would be a significant gap. Was this your experience with the 3 ways?. Do you have a pic of your final install? Thanks

Not sure how your are going in. You may have to drill new holes for the mounting screws.

I have Infinity 6 3/4 which came with surface mount trim rings. I had to make new holes to mount the rings. There is no problem with the speaker cage and magnet fitting through the sound pod opening. Note I have a 03 and the pods are different on earlier years.

Do a search on 6.5, 6 1/2 speakers. There are plenty of threads with pictures. Mine are in here http://www.wranglerforum.com/f5/pict...ase-74463.html

Thanks for all the feedback. I installed the 6.5 pioneer 4ways, last night. The mtg holes are right at the radius of the opening. I stuffed the pods full of pollyfill, and used a black acrylic caulk between the speaker, cover, and the plastic. I used 2" drywall screws to mount, and it worked great. Definetly need two people, one to hold, one for drilling. Sounds great. Loud to say the least. In addition I replaced the center counsel sub with the pyramid 6.5, from another thread, put 5.25 pioneer 3ways in the dash. 100% better. I have a new Sony head unit, that I will install today, I'm sure the extra power, and eq options will allow me to tweak my sound to my liking. Complete upgrade, with speakers, harnesses, and stereo, $230. Not bad
