6.25" speakers in Speaker Pod

Hey guys. I am thinking about replacing my stock speakers in the pod with 6.25 Polk DXI650. Will the Stock radio power them and sound decent? Also can someone post a picture of what the 6.25" speakers look like in the pod? Thanks

Thank you. Looks good now to hopefully find someone that has the polks with the stock stereo and I might just order them if they are good.

I ran my kicker 6.25's in the sound bar and kicker 5.25's in the dash with the factory stereo for about four years, it sounded ok, but since I installed the Kenwood radio, it sounds a lot better.

Did you have to drill new holes or were you able to use the factory 5.25" holes? I have the Polk DB651 and needed to use their supplied adapter plate in order to reuse the factory holes - which looks like crap by the way.

I have been reading that you have to make new holes.

I installed 6 3/4 w no issues. You should get rid of your factory stereo, it's horrible. U can get great receivers on craigslist for $50 that have aux and usb plug ins. Then u need the dash kit and harness and u are set.

Keep in mind there are two things: sound bar and sound pods.

The sound bar is in earlier TJs, which extends all the way across. 6.25" speakers will go fine without drilling new holes. I put DB651s in my 2002 without any issues. In my 2004 LJ however, I have the two individual sound pods, not the bar. 6.25" speakers will not easily fit. You would have to drill new holes and possibly use the dremel to make a larger opening, since the recessed "hole" is make for 5.25" speakers.

Db is correct, it will take some work in your 2004 but you still need a new receiver. Drilling new holes is easy and some speakers will have an inner set of holes on the bezel, along with an outer.

I'm pushing 4 of these Amazon.com: Infinity 529I 165W (Peak) 5-1/4 -Inch Two-Way Speakers (Pair): Car Electronics with an amp... they'll play much louder/harder than the pods will allow as is. So, not sure you're going to see any benefit worth your time messing around with the pod to get a 6.25 in there. I tried pissing around with the 6.25 people recommended and decided it wasn't worth the effort -- and that's when I picked up a second pair of the infinities. You will need brackets for the front speakers.

Drilled new holes, but the new holes are in the recessed portion and would not be seen if I ever went back with 5.25's.

I already swapped my fronts for 5.25s and I am on the fence about 5.25 and 6.25 because both are the same price. I am happy with how the stock stereo sounds, not the loudest but better than an ugly headunit with little lights and gismos on it. I might just go the 5.25 route and leave it at that. Thanks everyone!

Does the 03 have the bar or the pods? And with surface mount, how much of the speaker (grill) is sticking out?
