6sp transmission fluid

Can someone post the exact type (name or numbers) 6sp manual transmission fluid that I need ? I am taking my '05 TJ to the shop today for a transmission fluid change to see if this has any effect on the shift problem I have posted about. I just want to be certain that they have the proper replacement fluid, or I can go buy it for myself to take them if not.

I'll check this message for an answer when I get to work in about an hour...... THANKS !!!!

I just asked this question...from the responses I received you can either use a 3rd party brand like royal purple syncromax or you can go by the factory recommendations and buy the mopar manual transmission fluid. I went and bought the mopar fluid, have not put it in yet but I like following manufacturers recommendations.

Pennzoil Syncromesh is the same as the Mopar fill. As long as the oil meets MS9224 it will be the same as the factory fill.

Yeah, in my problems shifting thread I made a couple days ago, I got all sorts of responses about royal purple. Seems the majority say it will negate the warranty if used. Mines out of warranty, so that's no big deal, but if the manufactorers will cancel a warranty for it's use, I think I'll stay away from it.

Just going to use what is recommended, however I do not know what is recommended.....:o)

Duh...this is the same dealership where I had my cummins pickups transmission serviced and I made it about a mile up the road when the transmission did a self destruct because they forgot to put ANY fluid back into it when they changed the filter and oil....... Not saying that I don't trust them, I just don't trust them.....

I'm not sure, but I think your telephone is able to call ANY Jeep dealer in the country - maybe even the world.
Ask for Parts Dept, ask them.

Well rrich, I'm really sorry that I apparently bothered and annoyed you. I was just looking for some quick help this morning so that I could get everything taken care of within the hour that I had available to get it to the shop and get the right fluid if I needed to, but thanks to a couple of others posters, my question was answered in a friendly manner, I got the info I needed and made it to the shop on time and got it all taken care of..... Hope you have a better day....

I also have an 05 rubi. My local Jeep parts dept. sold me AT-F-4, and said to put it in both the transfer case and the 6 speed man. trans.

Is that right???

No, not at all. You are actually referring to ATF+4 but ATF+4 only goes into the automatic transmission and transfer case, not into any of the manual transmissions. Someone misunderstood someone about putting ATF+4 into your 6-speed manual transmission, don't do it.

While GM or Pennzoil's Synchromesh meets the specs of your transmission, Synchromesh is a dino lubricant which some have not been 100% happy with after filling their transmission with it. I don't know why but I've seen those comments a few times. Personally, I would go with Royal Purple Synchromax which also meets the specification but it is a full synthetic. Not that synthetic is required but it seems that reports from that have been universally good. So RP Synchromax is what I personally would go with, though I'm not otherwise a Royal Purple enthusiast like some are.

I was about to ask this same question, what did you end up using for the tranny? I have the same 6 speed, how about for the t-case?
