Make sure it is out of an explorer or otherwise the shafts are 28 spline. It sounds like it came from a Mustang if he is dealing with muscle cars mostly. It'll be a steal if it is out of a 1997-02 explorer with disc brakes.

If there's a pic on the Craig's list add post a link and I can tell you if it's an exploder or stang 8.8.

No pics but just spoke with the guy and its out of a mustang with a 302 race motor which probably means its 28 spline I guess
Just looked up mustang axels and it could be either 31 or 28 ill have to open it and see. also just read that older crown vic 8.8s have 31 splinew axels. Is that the only reason for wanting explorer axles?

Pony car may not be the correct width as well... starting around 95+ explxr and mountaineers have the 8.8 with 31 splines and disc brakes. Tubes are thick as well.. certainly other options out there.. dana 44, ford 9" etc.. run the cost and see what you get.. also 300 sounds high..

Down in GA I can find 8.8s for 100-150 all day long. Was hoping the locker rear end might be worth something but since ive never installed or had one installed I don't know a lot about them. For instance if the lockers in good shape cant reuse it and regear the axle to say 4.56 or lower? also width wasn't something I was thinking on cause I recall a show where they cut the tubes to length and rewelded them. I have over 20 years of experience with x-ray welding pipe and high pressur boiler tubes. I figure I could do that part myself. I knowim not seeing the whole picture but that's why I ask you guys I guess.

Well, if is like a E-Locker or Air Locker, then it would be worth it. But the oem limited-slip locker is what is commonly found in them.
