97-02 converted to 03-06 Dash

In the researching stages. I have a 98 with the tan/spice interior...i painted it black...looks "ok", but is pretty tricky to clean and not take paint off. Im in college an on of my buddies has an 03 so comparison is gunna be a little easier hopefully. Id like to go all black("agate" as Jeep calls it i believe).
I recently contacted "RubiconRecycler" on eaby, he is based out of Oregon and sells quality used Jeep parts. He tells me that the 01-02 style dash will bolt into my 98. Im interested in figuring out a way to get the 03-06 in there so i can have the updated center brezel(knob ac/heat opposed to slider and newer cd style radio).
Can anyone give any words of wisdom on the electronic side of this? Im pretty sure not much is gunna bolt right up... im not scared to drill some new holes in the Jeep or splice a few wires. Any write up/info out there? Ive yet to run across any...

I think you'd be the first as I really see no reason to it. Just find a local junkyard or someone locally that would swap interiors. I'm sure it could be done in a day or two.

Um, swapping the dash is one thing. Swapping the HVAC controls is something entirely different. 97-98 where the slider controls are used work differently than the 03-06. If you are swapping out the dash, that'll work fine. Be prepared to swap a lot more parts to get the newer style HVAC working, and probably not worth the cost to do so.

I would definitely not buy from Rubicon Recycler!!!!! I am still waiting for him to replace a fuel pump that was supposed to work with '97-'06 Wranglers, with one that will work on my 2003 TJ! I bought off ebay, and now it has been more than 60 days, so I am basically SOL on the transaction. Sorry to get off-topic, but you need to be VERY careful with this guy, Cody Crone of Rubicon Recyclers in Oregon City.

Other than that, I've got nothing, good luck with your swap, and keep us up to date with what you find out!

If you have to ask what it is or what it does, you don't need it, and you will need help to install it!
