97 tj front seats do not open

Ok so without an owners manual and upgrading from a YJ Jeep, I cannot get my front seats to tilt forward when putting passengers in the back, on my 87 they tilted forward when i released the tilt lever on the seat back, is there something I am doing wrong or something I may need to check? the hardware looks good as in no rusting, I did notice on the floor under the seats a small rubber bungie looking strap attached to nothing-Thanks

I've got an '01 and only the passenger side opens up, but only if you pull the strap just right. Drivers side wont open at all.

Do you have the pull straps on the seat about the shoulder area?

You can do that on the passenger side seat by pulling the loop protruding out of the side of the seatback which is about shoulder height next to the passenger door. If the loop is missing, there is a lever underneath the front of the seat that if you push down on it, will release the passenger seat so it flips and slides forward. That lever is on the side closest to the center transmission hump. IIRC on my '97, there is also a lever on the lower back of the seat that does the same thing that the loop is normally connected to via a long wire.

Unfortunately, the driver's side seat doesn't have the flip-forward feature in '97.

Even if you do have the loop the cable that goes through the seat they are prone to snap.

Some of the drivers seat has the tilt option and some don't . Even with the loop on the seat.

Yes if driver seat has the tilt option there will be a lever under the seat on the seat trac closest to the console.

I have a 1997 sport and both of my seats slide and tilt forward also. My passenger side button is broken so I just reach under the seat and push the mechanism......

That some '97 models have that slide and tilt mechanism must be another difference between early and later '97 TJs. I know early 97 models don't have that feature, which is what I have. Mine was made 3/96 and I bought it 5/96.

Heh, my '97 even has some '95 YJ sensors like the throttle position sensor and one or two others. It makes it hard when you're replacing something. At least now if it doesn't fit (pretty much electrical parts) I know to ask for its '95 YJ equivilent.
