Does it happen at all speeds, or mainly when you are going a certain speed (generally slow or generally fast)?

A thought = Do you have a Compression Gauge/Tester ? Perform that test to eliminate possible Valve Train issues. Bucking & Popping is a classical sign,
so it's good to Not overlook it's possibility. Cheap/simple/very little time and
labor involved.

Where Is this sensor located? I have the same problem. I thought it was my spark plugs misfiring so I changed those out but it happened again.

Not sure if I have the same problem or not, sounds pretty similar to what mine is doing as well. I have a 98 4.0L automatic. Mine jumps going from first to second and that is normally it. It is driving me crazy, I will be on the accelerator and it will just rev then finally go into second and when it does its like I'm riding a bull or something! I was thinking mine is the transmission but it sounds a little like the problem you had.
