97 TJ tire upsize

I up-sized the tires on my 97 tj just about a year ago to 32/11.5/15 and this week I "lost" my engine. The shop says it's because of the oversize tires overworking the 4 banger engine. Anyone else have a theory? I don't believe them but I want to get a new engine in here and keep rolling with THIS jeep and if it really is an issue then I've got to re-think my strategy.

I don't think it was really the tires. I just think a 13 year old 4 cylinder realized it didn't like this world and moved on. I guess it's time for an engine swap!!

Though if you do want to go up in power to the 4.0L you got to understand they can't run the same transmission and you would have to get a new input shaft for your transfer-case to use it with a I6 compatible tranny.

Or just go to a 350 and get the power struggle over with.

In all seriousness you could get a replacement 4 cylinder rather cheap second hand.

I was wondering so I called the guy I bought my Jeep from and found out that I am on the second set of Pro Comp 32x11.50.15's on my 2000 se (5.5 years in all) Sounds like a tech looking for something to blame rather than do his job.

Not the tires.
License to kill gophers by the government of the United Nations. Man, free to kill gophers at will. To kill, you must know your enemy, and in this case my enemy is a varmint. And a varmint will never quit - ever. They're like the Viet Cong - Varmint Cong. So you have to fall back on superior intelligence and superior firepower. And that's all she wrote.

x3 ? Lots of people run 32/33's on the 4 cyl. Not exactly ideal without steep gears but it certainly won't "kill" the engine.

Describe "lost". I am asking because I just got a new engine myself and it was due to a 5 year oil leak from the rear main and finally a spun piston bearing.

Update on "lost" engine

So I got somewhat suspicious again after I was told my engine was shot, and I took it to another place who actually pulled the head and said it isn't shot. But, there is some mysterious reason that it keeps cutting out and hesitating. They replaced the computer, which didn't work. They're going to have to keep trying different things until they figure out what is causing it to lose signal and misfire. Ugh!!!!! I want my Jeep back NOW! One positive: I didn't realize how much I'd miss it until it has been gone for two weeks.
