97 won't idle

I changed my water pump on my TJ 4.0, and now for some reason I can only start it with assist from the gas pedal, it will run, but take my foot off the gas and it won't idle. Just dies. Any ideas?

It ran fine before I changed the pump.

Did you disconnect battery when you did the work?

No. Did I jack it up by not doing so?

That it will only run when you step on the accelerator pedal could point to a bad or disconnected IAC (idle air controller) or TPS (throttle position sensor). Or a battery that is nearly dead, did you have to jump start the Jeep or did it start ok with its battery?

Ok. The battery was dead when I finished. Stupid me wasn't thinking about the hood light when I was working. Also, since this the play jeep, it hadn't been run in a while so it was already probably drained from sitting.

For grins, I disconnected the battery and reconnected. Started right up and idled fine. Gonna go drive it now and see if it stays running.

Let me also state that I charged it back up before I tried it today, so for the previous event, the battery was fully charged. My last post made me kinda sound like an idiot.
