97 wrangler 4.0 knock/lift

What's up everyone I bought a 97 wrangler sport, 4.0 5 speed. it runs great and doesn't smoke or sputter but I noticed that as its getting colder out it tends to knock/tick until it warms up. It doesn't do it while im driving or under load just cold start ups. It almost sounds a little like a diesel engine, its not obnoxious just wanted to see what people think. Thanks

Mine does the same damn thing...it's a jeep thing.

No really its a stuck lifter that needs to be warmed up. From what I read almost all 4.0 came out of the factory with this issue

That's what figured Ive been reading up on it the past few days and it seems like its pretty common. Im gonna check the exhaust manifold for cracks an to see if its loose today. Like I said it runs great an it only does it until its warmed up a bit just wanted some opinions.

Mine does the same thing. It bothers me because it's really noisy before it warms up, but it's a common complaint on the 4.0 engine and everyone says it'll run like that for a long long time. Can you take a vid of it?

I have a 2000 wrangler tj 4.0 and Mine has done it since I got it. I took it to my super mechanic and he said that its just normal for these motors. He said a lot of the 4.0 sound like a diesel engine. But that it will run forever. He told me to use 10w-30 and put some lucas oil treatment in for the last quart. I did as he said and all is well so far. I have 3 other jeep friends that their Jeep sounds the same as mine. THe noise is annoying but I am getting use to it
