Thumbs up 98 Jeep TJ Wheel Setup

Hello guys,

Im new to this forum and a new 98 Jeep Wrangler Sport owner. I will mostly just be using this Jeep for mudding and screwing around as im still in highschool. Anyways, I had some ideas about putting 33x12.5 BFG Mud Terrain tires on 15x10 Rock Crawler Series 152 rims. Does that sound do-able? Would I need any suspension fabrications? Looking for suggestions and/or advice!

Do a thread search. Minimum is about a 3" lift. I have a 3.25 lift and run 33 12.50 15's on a 15x8 with i think 3.75 backspacing. They stick out a little farther but i like it.

I like my 15x8's im sure some will argue with me. I have the RC lift.

No rubbing. Its the RC 3.25 lift. It suits for what i do

I have 33x12.5" tires mounted on 15x10" wheels.

I like the way they look on the 10"s because they stretch the tire out a bit and give them a more puffed out look.

But, I would probably go with a 15x8" because I can't mount a 33x10.5" tire down the road if I wanted to. I'm stuck with the 12.5" with the 10" wheel.

My only prob with puttin them on a 10" rim is you loose almost an inch. It really stretches the tire and makes it much shorter

I compared this the other day with a guy who had 15x8 and it seemed about .5" shorter. We had different tires though (BFGs vs Duratracs).

Visually you could tell that his tires had a more square look to them. I liked the way mine looked better though. I love the wide, meaty look.

My co worker has a crawler with 10's in the back and 8's up front. Hes runnin 37" buckshots. Theres a 2" difference.

Yeah... I could be a little off. I just measured the height on my leg and then walked over to his and compared. Not too scientific there.

Does anyone else have photos of their rigs on either 15x10s or 15x8s. Im just curious what the visual difference is because like I said, this is my first project haha.

I like the way that looks. Im with you on the beefier preference. As for down the road, Im not sure ill ever go down to 10.5 and if i decide to Ill just have to bite the bullet and get new rims.

Not to hijack the thread but I'm a little confused here. how does a wider rim make a 12.5" tire shorter? It seems like it would make it a little taller to me. But I'm usually wrong about stuff anyhow lol

Same principle as a rubber band..... Take a 1" wide rubber band and stretch it 4", then take the same rubber band and stretch it 6"... You will see that it is smaller when stretched further. Just like the tire being stretched a little more to fit the wider rim... Hope this helps clear it up for ya.
