Hoping y'all could help me out? my dad is looking to get himself a jeep and has been looking for a while now he came across a 1998 Sahara 130,000 miles, 4.0l auto, 3 inch suspension lift which the owner said is getting pretty old has 33inch Bfg m/t, the jeep is clean inside and out, it does have minor drip coming from transfer case, he is the 3rd owner and is willing to take 6800 based on the little info I've given does it sound like a deal ??

Hard top, soft top, Dana 44 rear axle, a/c working, axle ratios, rust?? Lots of variables. But in general, it could be a decent deal, but not a steal with leaking fluids. Don't jump on it without really exploring the whole vehicle.

If you like to offroad I would hold off and find one with the dana 44. Also if you buy this jeep as you do offroad right off the bat your looking at new gears if they are stock and replacing the axle so you don't snap it off road.

Yes I agree! It's my dad who looking to get the jeep he's new to jeeps but not to wheelin he plans on taking it out to see a little action off road nothing to serious I think he's getting old lol jk. Mostly likely my younger sister who's getting her license shortly will be driving it a lot to School so he wants something with the best of both worlds.

I dunno about holding off to find one with a Dana 44. That'd be great to find the same Jeep with a D44 instead of the D35 it has but a Calif. TJ is going to be in relatively good condition... surface axle rust not being a big deal. I'd offer $6000 cash to the owner while saying its rear axle is only a Dana 35 & take the $800 savings to buy a used Dana 44.

Here's a negotiating tactic... empty your wallet & stuff $6000 in cash in it... hiding the other $800 in your pocket if absolutely needed. Take the $6000 out while letting him notice there's nothing left & say "that's all I have" & he'll likely jump at it.
