In a bit over your head it seems . You will need more than just the motor to do the swap. No the ax5 will not bolt up to the 4.0. Your best bet is to find a donor TJ. You will need the complete drive-tran from the motor to the rear drive shaft and possibly the front one as well but cant remember. You will also need the engine wiring harness, ECM, fan shroud, radiator hoses, airbox, exhaust from manifold to muffler, passenger side motor mount from the 4.0 jeep? Probably left a few thing out but its def more involved than just grabbing a 4.0 motor from a cherokee. Not worth doing the 4.0 swap IMO unless you get a complete donor for cheap.

How soon do you need the motor? I am doing the entire 2.5 to 4.0 swap. I have my new 4.0 and in need of money for the misc expenses. I have the 2.5 that is currently in my jeep with 169k miles still in the jeep that's up for sale simply because I don't need it. I also have another 2.5 from a 93 with 124k miles on it. It's totally torn apart in preparation for rebuild but I decided to swap in the 4.0 message me if either interest you. Email is djeepmyers@me.com I am located in southern nh
