98 TJ lift question

I am going to make a 2" body lift for my 98 tj sport. My question is about what size the spacers need to be & hole size in them. I was figuring that I need to make them about 2" in diameter (I know they will be 2" thick)& put a 3/8" hole in them. It takes 8 spacers, is this correct ? How long of bolts will I need to put this 2" lift on ? I know I could measure the bolts & just get some 2" longer, just seeing if somebody knows so I can get them & be ready. What would the max tire size be with a 2" body lift.

Why dont you just save yourself a bunch of time and pay for a 2" bl if thats what you want!? They are cheap. Otherwise, buy 16 hockey pucks and drill those out, then stack 2 at each body mount. Mind you, I would strongly urge you to just do it the right way and buy one.

I could buy it but really don't need to. I am working Thanksgiving & all weekend. If everything runs smooth , there won't be much to do. Have everything I need at work to make them. I understand they don't cost much. I can make them for FREE though, that is even better. Not really putting any extra time into it, will give me something to do on nights at work. Unless something breaks down , then won't have time to do them. Figure in a 4 day weekend I will find a couple hours to make them.

You'll actually need 13 spacers to do the job right. The five additional you're probably not thinking of include three up front under the radiator grill and two more up by the rear upper shock mounts. Some kits only come with 11 as my old Performance Accessories 1" BL kit did but they later brought the total to 13 with two additional spacers to support the left/right sides of the radiator grill.

If you have a whole shop to use then why dont you machine up a set of 2" spacers rather then a body lift?
A body lift isnt going to give you any clearance and give you a nice gap between your frame and tub.

Dont forget about the moving the fan shroud, the linkage and other mis. stuff like the different size (not lenght) bolts for the front and rear. Better off spending the 100 bucks and getting the complete kit. Or you can use hockey pucks (like mentioned above) or skateboard wheels, but I wouldnt tell anyone about it.

you can use your stock springs with a spacer kit. and even your stock shocks.. i wouldnt take it wheelin with the stock shocks but they will work fine for a DD untill you buy a new set.

Depends on the OP's use...if the Jeep will be used off-road - I agree, the spacer lift or BB would be a better route to take. Even better, would be to forgo the BB for a 2" suspension lift, replacing the stock coils for longer ones. IMO, a suspension lift looks way better than a body lift.

If the Jeep is strictly a hwy cruiser, the BL is a feasible lift option.

Actually a BL does give wheelwell clearance, allowing tire uptravel short of bumpstop. Many ppl in the < 3" suspension lift + 33" tires, use a 1" BL to remove the slight rubbing caused by a disconnected front axle.
