'98 Wrangler - ongoing project log

Purchased a red '98 TJ about a month ago, and I've been scouring this forum for ideas on mods and customization. As a longtime painter and graphic designer, I am more than confident with cosmetic upgrades. Less so with mechanical. In any case, I'm pumped to start making changes to my stock Jeep.

I saw the idea somewhere on this forum, to log your build or project step by step. Loved it and thought I'd try it. So here goes!

Theme: "Scout"
-Functional components that fall in line with the "Scout" theme. (Extra lamps and exterior illumination, moderate lift upgrades, integrated GPS screens and communications capability, low profile paint scheme, expanded retrieval and first-aid capacity, etc)

My overall goal, is to make this Jeep as close to an official "Limited Edition" that would have been released by the folks at Jeep.

First modification: Rear-view mirror trick. Simply swung the thing around upside down, and BAM. Increased visibility through the windshield.
Second modification: Bedlined headlight bevels. (See pics)

I was very impressed with this simple MOD, and can only imagine a few cases when Jeeps should'nt have this blacked out version on the bevels. Six screws to remove, and bevels pop right out. The only thing I noticed was that they are specifically left and right. I spent 5 extra minutes trying to figure out why the screw holes didn't line up when replacing. $7 can of bedliner, and I'll be able to use the rest for handles, wheels, and fender flares. Total time: 2 hrs
