'99 TJ transfer case not going into gear after clutch replaced

I had the clutch replaced about 3 months ago and this is the first time I have tried to use the 4X4. no indicator lights come on and it wont go into any 4X4 gear, it just acts as if it is in neutral. I am sure it is something simple the mechanic forgot to put back or put back wrong. what should I look for?
