Question 99 Wrangler heater blowing cold..blend door?

New to the forum, hope I'm in the right place here.

I absolutely love my Jeep, and have had minimal problems with it over almost 12 years.

But now that cold weather is here, for the last couple of weeks it has decided to blow cold air instead of heat. Not all the time, but it either comes on cold or may get lukewarm then go cold. Occasionally it will stay warm, but not often. It NEVER gets hot like it should.

The temperature gauge goes up and stays normal. The blower works, as far as adjusting how hard it blows. The a/c, face, feet, defrost selector works fine.

I read some of the posts on heater problems, and it seems like maybe a blend door problem? If so, can anyone tell me where it is located, and how to know if there is a problem with it?

Thanks for any help!

i did everything . i flushed the core , changed the radiator , thermostat, every hose is hot to the touch. theres very little heat . it wont change from vent to defrost . when the jeeps idling the vent is hot but when i drive it gets cold.. is it the blend door?

Since I posted, I have been to the shop...twice.

I work at a parts store with some guys that have worked on just about everything for a long time. The consensus was probably heater core problem.

I bought a heater core & went to the shop. I commend him, instead of just replacing it (he says pretty much an all-day job!), he first flushed my heater core (3 times) and replaced the thermostat. They were all crapped up. He thought it might work itself out, but it didn't. So back to the shop.

He flushed it again, said one line was hot, one wasn't. The water pump is clogged up where it feeds the heater core, I guess. So I now have a water pump to replace it, but since this is my only vehicle and I will need to leave it (3-4 hour job), I haven't had a chance to get it back in yet. And believe me, Ohio has had some COLD winter mornings!!!
