A/C vent issue

I'm having issues with my Vents in my 06 wrangler. The A/C or Heat works fine but the air will come out of the selected vent and then start coming out of the floor or defrost vent and then switches around for no apparent reason. Can someone point me in the right direction as to what to check first?

Most likely, you have a vacuum leak somewhere. When the load changes on the engine while driving it causes a loss in vacuum pressure which is why it randomly switches around then comes back.

Check this thread fan only blows out defrost for a diagram of the vacuum line, then check each connection for any split hoses. When a hose breaks completely and falls off it will cause your air to only blow out of the defrost

Been there. I'll bet you'll find when it does that your cruise control doesn't work. On the driver side there is a vaccine hose that attaches to the side of the manifold. That will more than likely be your culprit. It is an elbow that connects to the motor that overtime expands from the heat
