A new Soft top

I've been looking into getting a new soft top for my 98 jeep wrangler but I have a few questions before i purchase. What brand would give me the biggest bang for my buck? And also do all soft tops fold down so the jeep is topless , and how easy do they fold down?

Bestop, Bestop, or Bestop. Sorry but they make an excellent product and are the manufacturer of the stock tops. Yes all soft tops fold down or can be removed completely. Installation isn't bad and as far as putting them up or taking them down, it gets easier once you have a little practice at it. It can take mine down in about 5 minutes, put it up in about 10. (including windows)

^^^ What she said! Do you currently have a soft top? It doesn't sound like it. That means you'll need hardware too. Unfortunately the aftermarket hardware isn't as great as the factory stuff. If you can find some used OEM hardware and a Bestop Replace a Top, that would be your best choice. If not there are frameless options and the SuperTop. Google Jeep soft tops or pic up a couple of catalogs at the bookstore. You'll find a myriad of options. When you think you have it narrowed down to a few, post up your choices and we can help guide you in the right direction. Keep in mind, especially with tops, you get what you pay for........

And welcome to the forum!

I probably have the cheapest top you can buy. Got it for two hundred dollars with free shipping new from eBay. So far it's been a solid top. It's actually made by smittybuilt. I thought it was gonna be super flimsy but turned out to be nicer than expected. Yes you ultimately do get what you pay for but that doesn't mean you have to pay alot to get alot. I was looking hard at bestops until I found a top that does the same thing for 200 dollars cheaper. Just make sure your happy with what you pay for.

Thanks for the welcome! And ur replies. I currently have a best top safari top which I don't like because of how the rain gathers in it. (any suggestions for that?). I will try to look for some hardware and get back to yas. Thanks.

Make a bow or prop it with a broom handle stuck in the cup holder when it's parked.

I have been doing some looking around. I love the look of the bowless soft tops but can't figure out if they fold off completely to be topless? I think they just turn into a bikini top, am I right?

Never heard of rampage. But if you want a decent affordable top I recommend the smittybuilt from some people on eBay. They have spice and black that I know of. You'll know when you'll find them cause they in the 200 to 250 price range.

I've been doing a lot of research on this lately myself and Bestop gets the BEST reviews from users. The bowless tops look pretty neat too. From what I understand, they most easily go into a bikini top although you can remove the entire thing to go topless. But for ease and simplicity, if you like top down completely, I think the regular frame type soft tops might be the easiest choice. Seems like the bowless ones would just take longer to put on/off per use.

PS - if price is a concern, I was given a good suggestion. Check junk yards for used hardware for a soft top; then buy a new soft top for it. That could save you a bit of cash.

I would imagine you best and cheapest route would be just finding a used bow assembly from someone and getting the quick-disconnect bow-knuckles. The quick connects make it super easy to remove the entire thing.

Bowless tops remove completely for topless, or the Rampage version can be run bikini style...

I have Bestop and it's great. Takes some time to get use to putting the top up and down but you catch on quick. Then it's a 5-10 minute thing. Good luck

Is it a hassle to take it completely off and can you store it in the jeep?
