A quick question

Hey Guys and Girls,

Tried a search without results.

Can someone tell me which manual tranny is used in the TJ Jeeps in 1997 and after?
Is the same tranny used with the 4 and 6 cyl?

Thanks in advance,
Tim

Thanks.
I am looking at a couple of 97's and was wondering if they had switched from the AX-5 to the AX-15. Not a big fan of the AX-5.
I have a Jeep Buyer's Guide by Jim Allen and it says the AX-15 was used with both engines.
Wanted to be sure....thought I would ask someone who knew!

Thanks

As far as I know the 4 banger only had the ax-5 for the tj. Also on the 97-99's 6's check for the manifold crack they often have.

umm, who's that guy. those transmissions were not interchanged on engines. ax 5 was on 4 cyl. and ax 15 on 6. the transmissions do look similar, and can be mistaken for eachother. but one will not fit on the other motor.

Here is a question to the Origanal poster....

What year jeep do you need it for and what motor do you have???

Tell us that and we'll tell you what will fit.

Summary....
97 4 banger.....AX5 ...ONLY
97 6 banger.....AX15

The AX5 will not bolt to the 6cyl, and the AX15 will not bolt to the 4cyl.

Also in 2000 for the 6cyl they switch from the AX15 to a NV3550 5speed.

Thanks Distortedtj.
Sorry for the confusion but my question was, did Jeep use the AX-15 with both the 4 and the 6 cyl. engines.
I had been looking into buying a 97' TJ, either one with a 4 cyl. or one with a 6 cyl.

What had confused me was a book entitled "The Jeep Buyers Guide" by Jim Allen (A Jeep Expert), said that only the AX-15 was being used in the TJ's.
So much for the experts!

I did end up buying a 97' Sport 6 cyl. 5 spd.(AX-15)

Thanks for all the replys Guys,
RJ
