Question About carrying toys

Hey there folks,
My pops does a lot of bicycling and occasional kayaking.

He has a Thule bike rack on the back, but has concerns about the weight on the door. What is the best way to travel with 2+ bikes without eventually jacking up the door/hinge?

Also, what is the best way to carry a kayak? Currently, he has to remove the soft top and place some cushions on top where the kayak sits and is strapped in. But if we wanted to keep the top on that wouldn't work. There are trailers, but those are $pricey$, anything else?

I use a small Harbor freight type fold up trailer for kayaks. It is easy to load/unload and the Jeep can get the trailer close to the water.
