? about tires and enough clearance

I have a stock 2005 LJ, I'm the 2nd owner the the 29" tires are about worn out. I'm a newbie to Jeep's so don't beat me up to bad if my ? are stupid.

The wife said she saw a LJ in a parking lot at the mall and the tires were bigger than ours. The owner walked up and she asked him what size they were and he claimed 31-10.50 x 15 on the stock rims.

I have read on the forum that some put 31" tires on with no problems and others claim you need to modify the vehicle to make them work.

What would need to be done to run the 31" tires on the LJ?

I had a death wooble issue about 3 months ago and it was worn out front shocks that caused the issue. Will I have to trash the new shocks to modify the LJ?

Thanks in advance for your time.

31x10.50R15's will fit on a stock LJ no problem. It originally came with 30x9.5R15, so that's also an option.
