About to go on my first highway ride, suggestions, help needed

Hello guys, i have to drive to another city today (about 150 miles round trip), here are some pictures before I go, I got the doors off, and safari top on.

Should I put doors on? Should I put soft top on? What is your setup, and how is this driving on highways, will I be able to do 80mph? will it be miserable? I would love to get some feedbecks. Also you might not see it in these pictures but I painted the round chrome circle things around the head lights, now there is no chrome at all, loving it

weather: 90s hot and sunny

My only advice is to watch out for tires blowing off of a big rig w/o your doors on. I run like that to and from work, 100 miles a day whenever I can, and those tires are my only fear. I worked for years for a truck leasing company and have seen a lof of accidents. It's not the road gators already on the road, you can get around those, it's when they blow off the rig.

Other than that you will really enjoy the trip.

You can have the doors on without the surrounds. Also for this trip..what is the weather going to be? Where will the jeep be when your there? Do you feel you need to lock it up. If so take the doors and top.. or just run with the top and no windows installed.

Also check your fluids before your big trip.. make sure all is good there.. and carry an extra qt or 2 of oil is always good as a just in case.

You should be fine. My Jeep will not do 80 if I were to beg it. Enjoy the ride and relax in the slow lane. You will have fun.

This safari top I have on requires for door frames to be off.
I will be picking someone up, will not park or anything, oil idea is great, I need to fill up radiator juice and oil.

Will it be violent trip 70-80mph?? I am so curious....
Will I be able to go to that speed?

Stick to 65-70 ....even the 6 don't like high speeds. It's the areodinamics of the jeep= it's a brick going down the road. Jeeps just don't go fast.

With your kido's back there saftey is the deal as you mentioned.

Kind of off topic, but when you get a chance, can you take some pics of the front? My Jeep is the same color and I have been thinking about painting those headlight bezels black. Just curious how it looks - from what I can see from the side angle there it looks pretty good, but a front shot would be great. Thanks.

I wouldn't call it violent and If you have a 4.0/6cyl it shouldn't be a issue getting up to 70. Going slower in the slow lane will just let you enjoy the scenery. In my opinion I always leave the top on for trips I ride with my bikini top on so if my ears get tired I can just pop the top back up and just ride with the doors off. Your kids should be fine other then the occasional bug or rock being kicked up but hell that just hits the windshield most of the time.

Safety wise riding with the top off is almost the same with riding with a soft top on in my opinion. If you really think about it a soft top would only protect you against road rash and your shit or you falling out and even then a good seatbelt should keep you inside. If it is bad enough road rash will be the least of your worries.

Get out there and just the enjoy it and don't worry.

Ouch

Probably will do 80-even 90 but engine will be screaming in my opinion.
Years ago I had suzuki sidekick 4wd, 4cyl, i really did 100 with it, i wouldn't have if I was in this age

I also recommend you to pick up a 6cyl Wrangler, I really thought they stopped making 4cyl Wranglers.
6cyl is very smooth, strong, and solid in my opinion.

Calculate Top Speed

Fun calculator for figuring top speed. Top speed is just a mathematical function of gears and rpm's. (and a jeep has low gears and a low rpm limit, so not so good for breaking records at Bonneville).

Getting to that top speed quickly, or uphill, or against a wind is a function of horsepower.

At speeds over 50 miles an hours, the amount of power needed to overcome wind resistance begins to grow exponentially. A car going level at speeds over 100 mph is like going uphill -- you need a lot of power to keep increasing the speed. This is the real-world reason why jeeps go slow: the brick factor.

Top speed runs use a LOT of ground - 7 or 8 miles out at Bonneville, although they only time 2 of them.

Drag racers use a lot of power to get that top speed so quickly.

Altitude also has an impact. They just finished the Pike's Peak race here in Colorado. The car that won had something like 850 horsepower measured at sea level. About half of that at the start of the race, and barely 390 at the top of the mountain (for a car weighing about 1,000 pounds, so it still goes like stink).

So IslandMonkey's time to get to top speed in Florida would be much faster than mine, but given a long enough stretch of road, we'd both get there. Eventually.

And I need to stop eating lunch at my desk.

ok I have 2.5L 4 CYCL. When I had 30 in tires and the top on doors on I could get her to 60-65 flat road hills down to about 55ish. This is a stick too. I regear to 5.13's and 33in tires I can get my jeep to 75 no problem now. With the top being off your going to be able to sit at 55-60 with no wind gusts.

If you haven't gotten more out of the insurance company than you deserve, then you haven't screwed them nearly as much as they have been screwing you for the past xx years.

Nope, got the 6 cyl. Loves to do 65 70 with no issues. But over that and I tend to run out of rpms.

The ride was ok. I was expecting some roughness so I put the doors on, and safari top was already on. I felt comfortable at 70mph with the setup I have (2000 sahara, with 3" bl, worn out 33x12.5 15s)

Many times I got up to 75, and it was till ok, no wobbling at all. So I am very happy with outcome, actually few drivers past by with smile nd envious looks

This vehicle is one big toy, it a giant street and highway legal GoCart!!!!!!! Awesome!!!
I cannot wait to pull my boat, and go hunting etc..
