AC compressor on/off

I know it's winter, but I wanted to make sure my AC works.

Should the AC compressor on my 2003 wrangler X cycle on/off every few seconds? Is it normal?

Too cool outside to tell if it's blowing cold.

When the defrost is on the ac compressor kicks in to dry out the air. Even though the ac is on, if the temp setting is on hot it will blow hot

My 03 TJ does the same thing

Yes it should cycle on/off. As stated above when in defrost mode it will kick on as well. It's a good idea to run it once a month to keep everything lubricated in the compressor.

You guys are awesome! Thanks.

After having AC trouble with my last two vehicles, I'm a bit paranoid. Guess I'm getting soft in my old age.

Be aware that a compressor that kicks on and off like that may be low on freon.

Not true. There are two types of A/C compressors: One type that kicks on and off every few seconds and one that is constantly on when you turn on the A/C or defrost. The Wrangler uses one that kicks on and off. Unless it is kicking on and off every second then it has a problem.
