ac leak?

I'm here in Texas and my A/C won't hold a charge. I have had a friend who does ac work look into it with sniffing around to find any leaks but nothing. I'm looking for anytips to what this could be?

Have him put some dye in it. Run it for a day and check with an ultraviolet light. (If he does A/C work he'll have this).

Don't forget to sniff at the A/C vents to check the evaporator.

After having my system charged about a month ago, I have a slight odor coming from vents when fan is on, would this indicate a leak in the evaporator?

if it won't hold a charge there is probably a decent leak in the system. put some real gauges on it (not that single crappy auto store gauge). pressure test it with dry nitrogen and you will find it. if it's a 90's jeep it's probably the evap coil. replaced mine two months ago and it sucked and took forever. good luck

a slight odor might indicate a leak depending what the smell is. if it's a musty smell your drain line might be a little clogged preventing water from draining therefore creating a funky smell.
