Actually dropping a 2.5 into a TJ...

I'm swapping in a newly-rebuilt 2.5L into my TJ (my first Wrangler motor install), and having major issues trying to line up the motor mounts while at the same time not hitting the bell housing of the trans (already scratched the crap out of my new pressure plate hitting the bell housing a million times).

I'm trying to drop it in with the motor mounts fully bolted to the motor, such that I would just bolt down the mounts to the frame if/when I could actually get them to line up with the holes.

Since it seems like a super tight squeeze, was wondering if anyone who's done this before has better luck bolting the motor mounts to the frame first and trying to slide the motor over top of them? Pulling the whole motor mount mounts off the block and doing it that way?

Any insights on your past experiences appreciated...

take off the motor mounts, bolt the engine to the tranny, then put mounts back on and align to frame, best way to do it , in my opinion

I had my 2.5 out many times. I've done it with and without the motor mounts. If the radiator is out then you should be fine. Personally I prefer the trans out as I find getting the motor in then adding trans is easier.
