Question ADE DIY Killswitch

Regarding the post from a while ago about the link to the ADE DIY Killswitch, that is a great idea. I wanted to post this info here as an update to the information with that just in case someone else is considering building that system. I went to radioshack and got everything I need (except for the reed switch) for about $35.

I'm having problems finding a reed switch online. Everywhere i've gone, they want you to buy roll's of them and spend at least $100!! I just want one! Any suggestions??

I was considering doing it last weekend, even bought all the stuff (except I was going to use a key switch inside my Tuffy instead of a reed switch). I haven't yet though, because I have doubts about the reliability of that little made-in-china relay. I realize it's easy to bypass it (plug in two wires) in the event of a problem, but I'll probably either come up with a simpler system or find a better, automotive-grade relay.

True that. i unfortunatly still have the standard center console (want Brinks or Tuffy) so I'm going to try this idea still. Whenever I'm done i'll PM you and let you know how it turns out. I figure for about 30-40 bucks, its worth the try.

So I checked out BobJenkins and I have a few questions

Can I use almost any NC Magnetic Reed Switch?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Door-Window-Safe...item35a8576abd

Is that the correct one to use? I have an idea on how to go and install a quick bypass for when the relay fails.

As long as the switch says "Normally Closed" that should work fine. I haden't thought about it until now but that'll work

Thanks dbb1 but the only problem is they don't say normally open or normally closed and the horn mod is a SICK idea, the only problem is I'd mess it up along the way then the alarm would go off while I'm in the middle of Philadelphia and be issued a $400 noise pollution ticket.

Yea philliprose25 that's the one I'm thinking about going with because it's already pre-wired.

Home security magnet and switch parts for windows and doors are a magnet in one piece and a normally open reed switch in the other. (The magnet makes the switch close). You can get these at Radio Shack, Home depot, etc.

Yea then that's not what you want because you want to get a normally closed (where the magnet opens the switch) for this project, right?
