Advice on Smitty soft top

Hello all,

I can readily see that Smittybuilt has a terrible reputation both for quality and for customer service here on WF.

I recently bought a 98 TJ with a hard top and a soft top, but the back window is missing from the soft top. I've been looking everywhere - CL, Ebay, the for sale section here, etc for a back window. They don't make replacement kits in spice any more (only black) and finding something in my color is difficult at best. I've found replacement kits, but the windows are like $225 for new.

Anyways, I see the Smitty soft top on ebay for $220 shipped and it has me thinking that that may be the cheapest way to get a complete soft top.

Does anyone have long term experience with this top to tell me how it wears?

I've just heard bad things about their tops. I've had 2 rampage replacement tops and had no issues with them at all. I found it on amazon for 275 with free shipping plus it has tinted windows. I would go with rampage if your looking for a top at a reasonable price.

I bought the smitty soft top on ebay as well, I was leary of the quality since it was priced so low but I was actually very happy with it once it arrived. I paid $230 with free shipping, came with the top, rear sides, rear window and windows for my half doors. Cant beat that price and its holding up just fine. Hope this helps!

Rampage Sucks, so does their technical support. Ebay buyers beware you will not be happy and will be stuck with crap. Especially Rampage Sailcloth, misrepresentation with their resellers and poor rampage response. Man did I get Hosed by ebay and rampage

I've had my smitty soft top that I got from Ebay for a year now and I haven't had any problems as of yet. I personally haven't been able to justify the price of some of the more expensive tops because I'm only using it about 5 months of the year.

Thanks. I was looking for someone who had owned one for a while. I really want to get something better, but when I can get the whole top for the cost of the whole top...

How does it hold up a year later?
