Question After market hood locks

Just wondering if any of you TJ lovers have tried out any after market hood locks. I only found one. It's made by Rugged Ridge. It's supposed to hide back in your grill a little bit. I ordered it becuase I really hate the look of those locking hood latches.

Any of you have any experience with this lock? Does it do the job, or is it cheeeezy? Anyone found any other kind of hood locks?

The factory latches is part of what makes a Wrangler a Wrangler and not a Liberty.

I've always liked the "shaker" hood on Mustangs, I like the look of the latches on the Jeep.

C'mon, it's a Jeep, It's all bumpy and lumpy already....and you're going to smooth out the looks of the hood ?

Not that you asked for this opinion, I'm just giving...

I think he's looking for something to keep people out from UNDER the hood. I've seen the one you are talking about I have also seen a small steel bracket bent up from some thin steel stock and attached under the grill, then a drill used to drill a small hole in both and a pad lock used to lock them together. Very common on military trucks and vehicles. I've also seen locking hood latches that replace the rubber ones on the sides of the hoods.

Quadratec has one that locks the release latch.

Midwest Specialties HL-4 - Hood Lock Kit for 97-06 Jeep® Wrangler TJ & Unlimited with Forward Latch Pull - Quadratec

I am going to get one since I leave my TJ in a park and ride often.

I have also seen a set that look exactly like the stock ones and just has a key hole in the middle.

I had one... then I put it on my bumper forgot it was there and ran it over and lost it in the process... worked great while I had it. always thought about getting another one but didn't see too much point in doing so.

Ummm....what? I'm not taking the stock latches off. I like them too. I was asking about the under-hood aftermarket hood locks rather than the aftermarket locking latches. The locking latches is what I think looks like crap, not the stock latches.

Hey...you got the idea!
Yeah, just trying to keep others from out of the engine compartment. If you piss someone off that hasn't grown a sack, they tend to go after your vehicle. I ordered the one that fits inside the grill. I was just wondering how good they work as it's only a $20 part.

Cool. I hope it works well. But the whole thing comes out every time you unlock it? It doesn't mount to anything? Weird.

Right. That's the one I bought. We'll see how it goes.

Yeah, these are the ones that I don't like. They really alter the looks of the Jeep. I would love to find those others that you are talking about. (The ones that look stock with the key hole in the middle) If you find them anywhere, PLEASE let me know!

Thumbs down Complete Garbage!

I put this lock on tonight. I guess it may serve some purpose, but not what I'm looking for. All I can see it being used for is just a slight deterrent, to try and keep people honest, but provides no REAL security. A person with just an ounce of demermination could pry this loose in a heartbeat to gain access into your engine compartment. It's really only good for repelling lazy criminals.

Back to the drawing board. I'd really like to get some of those locking latches that look the the stock latches. If anyone can point me in the right direction for them:, PLEASE DO!
