Aftermarket speakers

So I was poking around my jeep today and found out I have after market speakers. I was wondering if this wiring looks right or is this something that is not done right? These speakers sound terrible btw and I want to replace them so bad but is it just the wiring?

Looks to me like they spliced into the existing wires (or tried to). Generally speaking I'm a fan of Pioneer speakers so I'm guessing the wiring has something to do with their sound, unless they are just blown. My recommendation, which I had to do to my own jeep, is to undo what ever then PO did by removing the spliced wires and re-taping the wires up correctly. Then purchase the proper wiring harness for jeep speakers which are fairly cheap (less that $10 on amazon) and hook them up correctly. If they don't sounds better then you know its the speakers and you will already have the proper harness for any other replacement speakers.
