Air Bag key switch

01 TJ, I6 with 5 speed

About a week ago my air bag light came on and stayed on. I had recently installed a CB and radio, so I figured I dorked something up. Horn worked and the gauges were fine so I didn't think it was the clock spring. Today I took it to a local shop and asked them to run the SRS code reader. They just called me back and said it was the air bag key switch by the shifter. Anyone had this happen to them before? Just curious because it sounds kind of strange.

Phil

By kind of strange I don't mean I think the shop is giving me bad info. I just think it is strange that the stupid switch messed up right when I installed the CB and radio. On the plus side the guy at the shop gave me the wire diagram for the air bag system and instructions on how to test the switch to make sure it is good before I buy it. Of course he had a TJ sitting in the parking lot that he drives.

How do you test the switch?

I recently removed my console and after putting it back in (yes the plug to the key switched was plugged back in) the air bag light stays on.

Yeah mines been on for a while now too- the orange light that shows whether the passenger airbag is on or off is out. Could be bulb but the dash light is on too.

When I replaced mine it fixed the problem. I will upload the schematic with the notes in a little bit and you can see how to test the circuit. When I replaced mine it fixed the issue and the part was only about $40.

I managed to get mine fixed by replacing the bulb inside the switch.
I don't recall seeing a thread here that even mentioned that the bulb could be out causing the circuit to break and triggering the dash light/alarm but I did stumble across this thread: Passenger airbag switch light fix (which turned off cluster airbag warning light) - JeepForum.com

Following that I was able to fix it.
