Angry Air conditioners

I am in the market for an air conditioner for my Heep! So I checked out the internet and found a company called "JeepAir", I called and found a complete kit for just over a K. I ordered the kit and was told they were temporarily out of the compressors for this kit but would receive them within a week. That was about three weeks or a month ago. I checked after the first week only to be told the compressors would be in just before the 4th of July and would ship to me just after the 4th. On the 5th I called to make sure the shipment was on the way, (it's very hot here) only to be told now the shipment would be there no later than the 7th, and they had confirmation of the arrival date to them, and would ship to me on the 8th. So once again, I called on the 7th and was then informed my particular compressor would arrive to them on the 14th! It would then be shipped to me... I would advise anyone that is looking for air conditioning to be aware of these people. Has anyone else done any business with them? If so I would like to know how they fared. I am still waiting for a call back from Jeep Air which may never happen.

Interesting, I was planning on ordering a kit from them as well. Keep me updated.

I finally received the parts on Tuesday the 26th. My Heep is in the shop getting the install done as of yesterday. As soon as it is up and running, I'll post the results. The outfit that I bought from kept changing the "Waiting on item" so I don't really know what the hold up was. I do know it was over a month from order to delivery.

Not bad. If you dont mind me asking, what is it costing to install the kit?

I used to work for a dealer,(not a Jeep dealer) brand x, and they are doing it for me at just over half price. That comes in at around $550.00. It's in now and I have cold air in the cabin with the windows rolled up! I have a can of "ice" ordered to add to the coolant, I have used this product before and noticed quite a difference in the temp. Good luck on your endeavors to get an air conditioner with a decent delivery time!

I called my local 4WD shop and he quoted me $500 to install the kit. I think I am going to order it and have him install it as I dont have the time, nor the patience sometimes to do a big install like this.

How has it been working, ice cold?

It gets nice and cool inside the cabin now. Be careful on getting a price, I was quoted $450 at another dealer and found out it would have been much more to get out the door from the first place. That's why I went back to where I use to work. Good luck.

7.6 hours is the book rate for installing an AC kit so the $550 is about right if the shop rate is about $72/hr.
I know the OP here is not going this direction but, the average cost for a factory set up from a parts car is about $200 to $300 max and it's usually easier/faster to install. There is a short list of things to look for when buying a used system and some things are just not worth re-using and cheap enough to buy new replacements like an evaporator tank for one.

True. I was quoted about $500 to have it installed, and he charges $70/hr.

Still waiting for my order to be shipped that was placed on Aug 19th. I was told it should ship by Friday Sept 2nd. I asked them if all the parts are in stock and they said yes, but their shipping dept is backed up. Summer will be over by the time I get it installed. I will keep you guys posted.

Update: I called today at 1pm to see of my order has been shipped. I was told by a lady, who was very nice that it has been "picked", and should ship tomorrow. I told her I have been hearing this for the last 4 weeks. She stated they have been backed up on orders. She took my cell phone # and told me she would call me right back after she spoke with the shipping dept who was on lunch at this time. Its now 6pm, I am sure they have closed, and I never got a call back. Will post more as its available. Any one wanting to order from them just be aware it may take months before you get a part.

Well, this sounds like the same story I was getting, this is why I posted in the first place, the song and dance game. I just hope some other Jeeper moves on to greener grass. I don't think these people really have the kits in the first place, they just try to gather up the parts on getting someone to order one. Like bait and wait. Good luck though.

Its true. I usually dont rant on about a company, but I am keeping this thread updated for people who want to buy from Jeep Air.com, and see what we have gone through. Before I had placed my order I called to make sure all the parts were in stock, and I was told yes. But almost a month to ship, with still no answer, its mind boggling.

Do none of ya'lls Jeeps have A/C or is it that it just doesnt work? My 99 Sport saw it has AC on the dash and everything but has just never worked, I've always just thought it was because my compressor is messed up.

Called them again today because I never got a call back yesterday. Now they tell me the "brackets" for the kit have not come in yet and should be in early next week, but its not definet. I am to the point now where I just feel like cancelling the order, because I can not get a strait answer, and was told originally the kit was in stock, and was ready to ship yesterday.

I was lucky, when I bought my YJ, it came with a brand new AC from JeepAir. (At least, that's what I believe it is.)

The only issue is it's missing the interconnects. I have to find the dude who sold it to me and see if he has them.

If not, on the website it was selling for like $140 for the kit. I think I'll come up with my own at that price. I'm pretty sure I can find some fittings a lot easier than that.

I was looking at the instructions, and they don't seem complicated. Seems pretty straight forward.

Why does it take 7+ hours for something that seems like it should only take 3 or 4?

Pro comp took 7 weeks to get my wheels shipped to me... sometimes it just happens. BBB won't really do a whole heckuva lot unless they either fail to deliver or commit some kind of fraud... offer one thing and send an "in lieu of" item that's not what you ordered... for backorder type issues they won't help you unless they get a long history of complaints about it.

Thanks guys. I am hoping that others will read this and just be cautious. I just hate not being able to get a strait answer.

Just an update: I called and was told my order was going to, once again, ship today. I asked to speak with the shipping dept to confirm this. I was transferred to a man who told me they are waiting on a bracket that Mopar does not make/sell any more. They sent a bracket to a machine shop and are having it duplicated, and the order was not shipping today.
He also told me they are backed up on "20" jeep a/c kits because of this. He said my order "should" ship by next Friday, 9/23, as he is expecting the brackets next week. I was originally told the brackets would be in "early this week."
I was reading on another Jeep Site that a Jeeper ordered this kit, and waited a month to get it because they didn't have the compressors. Once he got it, the summer was over, as in my case. He did not install the kit till the following summer. When he installed the kit he was missing parts. They originally gave him a hard time saying it was too long he waited to install the kit and they would not warranty it. He then got them to over-night the parts he was missing after speaking with multiple people.

Now you see the reason I originally posted a warning about this company. Jeep Air has a lot of "Air" just not much in the line of action. Please, others take note and keep looking. True a lot of "Jeeps" come with air, but there are a lot of them that don't. If I were to buy new, I would buy with air but I did not buy new so I found a Jeep I liked and had to take what was there. This is just my "up in the rough" rig so I got what I got. Then added the air.
