I don't think you should be too worried about mileage in a jeep to begin with but with a 6 inch lift and 35s you should just bend over at the pump and not worry about ac just go doorless and topless

It does hurt you mileage as the engine has to work harder, but being that you drive a brick on wheels as is, you won't notice much of a change, probably 1mpg at most.

Yes it does. but less than having your windows open doing 60 on the highway.

I disagree, this is dependant on each vehicle. Even though myth busters tested it, I know for a fact my trucks gas mileage doesn't show any loss with the windows down, even at 70, but if I have the A/C on, it drops by 1-2 mpg. And for the Jeep, it doesn't show any loss when I had a scanner hooked up to it. It's so aerodynamically challenged that putting the windows down won't make a difference.

Ugh... I started a thread about a similar subject last week. My Jeep sucks air hard when AC is on. Almost like I'm always a gear ahead of what I should be (manual). Not too bad on the highway, but around town, stop and gos, its definitely noticeable for me.

Hammer, do you have a 4-banger, if yes, then you will notice a good decrease in power, but with the 6, it's not noticeable.

'02. The thread I created asked if it could really bog my system down tis bad.

It seriously is a nightmare to run AC when zipping around town. Feels like a ton a bricks is behind me. But when its off, she purrs and runs normally. Usually I can leave it in 3rd gear, and zip around. Buenoq with AC on, there is 0 instant response when I press on the pedal. Zip around someone. Its more like 'do I have to?!'

My 06 is the same way. I average bet 15-17 since I have bought it. Turn the A/C while driving to work and it drops to 12 mpg and runs like a turd. Once back on the highway it gets about 14-15 with the air on.

AC, power steering, everything with a pulley and a belt takes power/fuel to operate

What kills me is that my wife has an 08 Kia spectra with a 2.0 4-Banger and you can't even tell when its on no matter what the case is. :'(

Eh, whatever, i'll learn to live with it and take the very rarely bad with the awesomeness that is a Jeep. At least when I do have to run the AC, its a freezer in the cab, even when at a stop and idling .

I wouldn't start the Jeep with the AC on. The AC compressor will just put more strain on starter. Atleast that's what I think
