Alternative to a Soft Top

I just purchased a 2006 Jeep Wrangler after wanting one for years! My Jeep came with a hardtop and I've been searching for a softop to install for the summer. After looking around I've come to see that I will be spending anywhere from $500-$700 for that and I just don't have the money to do that at this time. Any suggestions for what I can get that is cheaper but will also help protect my Jeep if it does rain on a day I have my top off? I did purchase a Best Top cover for the Jeep to use at night if I leave the hardtop off, I'm however looking for something I can use on a daily basis so I don't have to keep taking my hardtop on and off. I appreciate the help and suggestions that will come and am glad I found this forum!

I used only a Bikini top last summer. I paid $50 for it used. A little rain doesn't hurt.

Anything else you will probably spend close to $500 since you will need door surrounds and tailgate bar and a header.

I would get a bikini top now and header, then slowly accumulate door surrounds and a tailgate bar then either buy a used soft top or get a frameless soft top.

Buy used. If somebody has just the hardware u can buy just the top (best top replace-a-top for less $$. I did this years ago, bought hardware $75 and new skin $2 (something) brand new top for around $300

Safari and tonneau cover works great for summer, its been pouring rain here just about everyday and I stay dry.

I agree with CMA Rider. I run a safari top, tonneau, and wrap around wind jammer on mine year round. I also have a bikini top but find here in NE Fla rain comes when it feels like so to keep the back from puddling I run the safari.

I have one of those wrap around wind jammers its great for the winter, the cab gets warm a whole lot quicker than a soft top

Check the junkyards. There are a lot of TJs around, and in fact I just saw one with a more-or-less intact top today. (A&A Wrecking in Parsippany, NJ)

That mus be exclusive to NJ, pretty much every where else TJs are rare, and if they are found the junkyard guys typically aren't stupid and put a high price on any of the parts.

OP I wouldn't bother with any full top. I have the Rampage top and keep it in "bikini mode" all summer. It's rained many times, in fact it's raining right know and it keeps all the important stuff dry. If you still have your carpet and drain plugs now would be a good time to get rid of them.

I suggest you just get a cheap bikini top.
