Time for a new stereo. They are so cheap now days. Don't keep a stock one.

Many people change their entertainment unit immediatley after they purchase a new vehicle. You can find plenty of Jeep take outs for $30-$50. The only ones that are expensive are the NAV unit take outs.
Patience is a waste of time...

Might be that the antenna is disconnected. FM uses a different antenna than AM, so you could have one without the other.

Older TJs radios have square corners, newer ones have round corners. The connectors are different, too. If you look at a factory parts list for your Jeep, it will list radios for your year. There is a three letter model, i.e. RAD, RBK, RBY, REK, RBT, RBQ RB3. Older square corner models are RBR,RAS,RBJ RBA and RBL. Then there is a part number for your year Jeep. The part number indicates features specific to your Jeep like the backlight color.

These models are used in other Chrysler products, and they wil fit and work in a TJ.

for the price of a used stocker, you can probably find an aftermarket with more features and probably better sound quality

I recommend getting an aftermarket stereo. If you're worried about theft, take the face plate off.

Its what you should do regardless...
