And the search continues

So I've been lurking the boards for a while now researching for my jeep purchase, but I guess this is my first official post.

Been scouring craigslist, autotrader, and google for months now and still searching for my wrangler. Found a few in my area, but they were snatched up almost instantaneously.

I'm looking for a TJ post 2002 as I would like to avoid any possible 0331 problems, and ideally one that has already been lifted with not too many other mods (I'd like to do those myself). A few years ago I had a truck that I bought used that was lifted and tires/wheels/suspension were all completely revamped by the PO (a mechanic) and I got a great deal considering all of the parts and labor that were involved.

Thought I could find a jeep pre-modded and save some cash, but I'm starting to rethink that one. Nearly every jeep that i've seen for sale thats been lifted and has any suspension mods has either been beaten to hell and back or was the victim of a serious hack job.

So my question for you guys is:

Am I better off getting a bone stock TJ on the cheap (HA - never knew wranglers retained so much of their value, there is no on the cheap here) and lifting it myself? Or is it a better deal to buy from someone whose already done it.

I realize if I go the first route I have complete control over my lift upgrades, but I dont know too much about lift and suspension so I may end up with my own hack job lol. The second route seems like it should be a little cheaper as long as I have a mechanic look it over, but not sure if my thinking is right there or not.

I will say that a nicely lifted wrangler is few and far between in my area, really have to pounce on those deals when they show up or get left in the dust it seems.

Post where your from and maybe someone local can help you out. Here in Washington there is more jeeps for sale then buyers. Unfortunately most are stock, beat up, or PIMPed out. Good Luck on your search.
