#1- There is a rattling noise (kind of like a loose wire hitting metal) somewhere inside my rollbar, on the driver side. Ive taken the sleeve off and the padding out and I can not find anything that would make this noise.

and

#2- Is a clutch issue, and is hard to explain, so please bare with me. When I am in neutral there is a strange knocking noise, kind of sounds like there is something loose, coming from under the Jeep somewhere. Also when I shift from first to second I get this wierd pop sound, like it doesnt want to go into gear.

Any info on these 2 issues would be greatly appreciated. :banghead:

Welcome. What year Jeep are we talking about? As for the rollbar, not sure what could be inside making that sound. Has it just started or was it always there and has gotten louder?

The clutch, depending on the year, some of them sounds like a can with marbles in it, until you push the the peddle in. As for the banging sounds, is this more audible or do you also feel it pr both? If you feel it you may want to check your driveshaft u-joints.

Hey Frogman,

The clutch issue may be the throw-out bearing. It's a hydraulic one piece unit.
I had a Ford Ranger that did the same thing back in the day.

As far as the noise, does it only happen on rough surfaces or does it do it with the windows down going down the road? Sometimes the bushing goes out on the upper seat belt guide and can cause a metal to metal noise. Other than that, I'm not sure.

I have an 05 X.

The rollbar noise just started like a month or so ago. Over time it has gotten louder. And it does it anytime my jeep is in motion.

As for the clutch, it stops when I push the pedal in. And its pretty close to the can with marbles sound. Is there anything I can do to stop that? Getting old sitting at a light in neutral while keeping the pedal pushed in.

It's very common to be able to hear the transmission's "innerds" spinning around when the clutch pedal is not being stepped on and the tranny is in neutral. It's normal and not really fixable if you have the older AX-15 (unless it's REALLY bad which would mean something is definitely in need of repair) but I think there's a TSB to fix that on the newer NV3550 which can be worse about that than the AX-15 can be.

Where can I get this TSB?

Jerry,

Two Questions here:

1.) Where can I get my hands on this TSB? I have a 2000 Sport 5 speed and it sounds exactly what you described above..

2.) How can one tell if he has the AX-15 or a NV3550?

Thanks so much sir!
