Annoying Problem

I have a 98 tj with a 2.5l. Yester when driving to work i noticed the engine surged a little. I got a mile away from work and the jeep died. All guages were fine and the fuel guage said half a tank. A friend of mine had the same issue once and it turned out that the float stuck in the fuel tank. I put gas in it and it ran.

Now i have further issues. I recently replaced the clutch in it and put everything back to together and check all my connections. The jeep is sputtering and backfiring. I am also having a loss of power when i get on the gas. Now it will not idle properly without missing. It has been hard to start lately, not starting on the first try.

The CES light was on before, now it isn't. I am going to have someone pull the history for the codes.

Could this be a full pump problem? maybe the crank sensor is bad? Please help me. i want to take the Jeep to OBX saturday.
