Annoying rattle.....

I've had a rattle under my 97 TJ (2.5 engine) for over a week now, its driving me crazy. I got under the vehicle this evening with it idling and discovered the noise is coming from the catalytic converter, its not loose, the heat shroud on top of it is tight and is not causing the problem. The rattle is coming from inside of the converter, sounds just like a bolt or a nut bouncing around in there. Guess I'm going to take it to the local muffler shop and let them pull converter off and give it a good shaking to see whats causing this noise. Anyone else ever have this problem?

Its probably the honeycomb metal starting to break apart inside.

Yeah, something is definately coming loose inside. Jeep only has 85200 miles on it, you would think the converter would last longer than that.

I've been meaning to replace my rattling cat for a couple of years now. Just can't seem to bring myself to spend the money yet. I replaced my muffler last fall and should have done the cat at the same time but decided to wait. Money and me don't seem to be the best of friends lately....we just don't spend as much time together anymore as we used to :-(

I keep going back and forth on which cat to replace mine with. One guy says get a high flow cat and another says it won't change anything. My buddies jeep has the same magnaflow muffler as I do and his jeep sounds completely different than mine and the only thing he has that I don't is an aftermarket cat where as I have the stock cat.
