another speaker question

Im changing out the speakers in the wife's 98 TJ sport
Im wondering if these would fit in the dash
Polk Audio db461p 4"x6" plate 2-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com

I figure Im gonna need some modification but Im curious if its gonna be a grinding wheel and a drill gun and a beer or a mig welder and a case of beer

Crutchfield usually supplies any brackets needed with good instructions on the installation. I am running Polk db525 with brackets I purchased off ebay.

I'm not sure if there are differences between a 98' and a 2000', but a "plate" will fit without mods in mine. Please let me know how you like them after you get them installed. I'm considering different speakers for the front too.

will do
I'll post up pics of the swap sometime after xmas
Im changing out the OEM's in the sound bar as well to Polk too. Haven't decided if I want the 6 1/2's or the 5 1/4's yet
Money is the same and I have been told its easy to upgrade the size
We will see

I put those is without cutting the dash. I like.

You will need these plates or make your own out of sheet metal like I did.

Early TJs like yours use a non-standard 4x6 speaker size so you will have to do some cutting and drilling. It took a little work to get my new front speakers installed into my '97 for that reason. It wasn't until a few years later when Jeep finally switched to a standard 4x6 speaker size.

I put 6.5" Sony explods in my sound bar, they were shallow mount speakers. I didn't have to do any mods to it, they fit right in.
