Cheap? poke a bunch of holes in the stock muffler for free.

Or get a thrush welded muffler for $35-$40

Get a kick out of some people wanting more sound from their Jeep. It's either a 4 or 6 cyl for christ sakes. You don't get any good sound from anything less than 8 cyl. It's a Jeep not a damn ricer with a lawnmower sound and a 6" exhaust tip.

Lets see, drawbacks... Perhaps leaking exhaust fumes and carbon monoxide in the interior are 2 that come to mind. A friend tried it with his car. Sounded horrible and he always reaked of exhaust. Not worth it, imho.

I hear plenty of Jeeps that sound good and they are not 8 cylinders...

I have 2 Corvettes if i want that V8 sound through headers and a catback

You're not going to get a throaty sound out of a 4 or 6 cyl. You drive a Vette, so you know what I mean.
I've got a Mustang and I love my Flowmasters.

Any number of cylinders can sound good because sounding good is up to the individual.

I didn't ask how to get v8 sound. I simply asked for a bit more sound. Others did a great job at giving advice.

What size tail pipe are you running? I have a 40 series, some 2 1/2" and some 3" laying around. All this talk about exhaust makes me want to do something.

2 1/4, but 2 1/2 would work on a 2 1/4 outlet muffler if you just trim back the outlet a bit.

How is the tone with 2 1/4? In my experience it seems like the bigger the tail pipe the deeper the tone.

I put a 40 series flowmaster on my 4.0 and I love the sound. I just cut out the stock muffler and welded in the new one and there is no exhaust fumes or anything. It might sound better with a high flow cat but im content with it the way it is for now. My advice, spend a few extra bucks and buy a flowmaster. I got mine for about $70 at pep boys with their 20% off coupon they had in store

Personally not a huge fan of exhaust mods. If you have every been on a long trail run behind someone with a "loud" jeep, it kinda ruins the ride after a while. But, as said earlier, to each their own.

yeah but even us Vette guys gotta admit the Stangs sound pretty decent from the factory...meanwhile us Vette guys have to buy aftermarket stuff not that I'm complaining because the Borlas on both Vettes sound awesome...

oh yeah I told my girlfriend I wasn't going to mod the Jeep

Part of my exhaust pipe behind the muffler fell off.. on it's own.. so I'm accidentally enjoying the throatier deeper tone. Let it get louder the natural way
